Why? A Digest must be connected to a component to send notifications about that component.

Digest is currently supported for Calendar, News, and Standard Database components in Community Center. It is also supported for News, Event, Asset, and InfoItem entities in our Asset Mapping add-on.

Connecting a Digest to a component is usually done in that component's configuration settings. Each component needs slightly different information which is explained on the configuration form. However, each will have two common settings: The Topic Group (i.e., Digest Component) that will be connected, and which topics should be selected by default.

Here's how to get to the Digest configuration settings for each supported component:

Calendar

  1. Visit My Profile > Calendar Manager, then click the name of a Calendar component. The Categories window appears.
  2. In the Digest Settings area, select a Topic Group from the list. Then, in the left column, click Save Digest Settings. The page refreshes.
  3. Check any boxes to Assign Default Topics. In addition, you must provide the file name for a Link Page that has a Large Grid Calendar View on it. This is the page that Digest emails will link to for more details on events from this component. When ready, click Save Digest Settings again.

News

  1. Visit My Profile > News Manager, then click the name of a News component. The Preferences window appears.
  2. In the Digest Settings area, select a Topic Group from the list. Then, click Submit. The page refreshes.
  3. Check any boxes to Assign Default Topics. Then, click Submit again to save your changes.

Standard Database

  1. Visit My Profile > SDB Manager, then click the name of a Standard Database component. The Database window appears.
  2. In the left column, click Edit Database Settings. The Standard Database Settings window appears.
  3. The Digest Settings are toward the bottom of the form. Select a Topic Group from the list. Then, Submit the form. The page refreshes.
  4. Return to the Digest Settings area. From the Digest Summary Field list, select the field that contains the information you want to send in Digest emails. In the Digest URL box, type the file name and ID string of a page where a Results View of the Standard Database is present. Finally, check any boxes to Assign Default Topics. Click Submit again to save your changes.

Asset Mapping

  1. Visit My Profile > Component Manager, then click the name of the Application component used for your Asset Mapping application. The Component Editor window appears.
  2. In the Digest Settings area of the form, select a Topic Group from the list. Then, click Submit. The page refreshes.
  3. Again, in the Digest Settings area, check any boxes to Assign Default Topics. Click Submit again to save your changes.
