For a 5th season, LIAA's UpNorth Media Center has organized Picnic at the Opera, at live variety show being held every Wednesday in February at noon in Traverse City. Produced along with partners City Opera House and Northwestern Michigan College's Audio Technology Program, each program features local musical, dance and spoken-word talent, and is hosted by local musicians Miriam Pico and David Chown.

The UpNorth Media Center staff and volunteers make sure everyone looks good in the video recording, while the NMC Audio Program ensures great sound. City Opera House provides the facility and volunteers that help the "studio audience" feel comfortable. Over 250 people attended the first Picnic at the Opera on February 1st.
